Matcha and the Quiet Moment of Art

Sometimes creativity begins with a very small ritual.
Before starting a new painting, I often like to slow down for a moment. A simple cup of matcha tea has become one of those quiet pauses in my day — a small ritual of calm before the brush touches the canvas.
Matcha is not just tea. In Japanese culture it is connected with a long tradition of mindfulness and appreciation of simple beauty. The tea ceremony teaches attention to small details: the texture of the bowl, the color of the tea, the silence of the moment.

In many ways, painting can feel similar.
When I work with oil paint and palette knife, each stroke becomes a small decision. The rhythm of the hand, the texture of the paint, the balance of color — all of it asks for patience and presence.
Perhaps this is why the idea of matcha feels close to the creative process. Both invite us to slow down and notice the quiet beauty of simple things.

Recently one of my paintings traveled to Japan through the international art platform TRiCERA ART. Knowing that my work has found a home there makes this connection even more meaningful to me.
Art, like tea, can create a small moment of peace in our busy world.
And sometimes that moment begins with something as simple as a bowl of matcha.
